Rome, 1945. The war is finally over. Carmen Fontamara (Manuela Arcuri), in the light of her son, the result of the violence she had suffered from the dangerous Nito Valdi (Gabriel Garko). The Fontamara family is at the seventh heaven for the birth of the baby while the Knight Francesco (Stefano Santospago) is convinced that the father of the unborn is his son Giancarlo (Francesco Testi), still engaged in fighting with the northern Red Army partisans.
Nito continues to seduce Elsa, Rome Carmen learns from Giancarlo, supported by Inspector Malpietro, whom Valdi intends to abduct. Giancarlo, meanwhile, with his former partisan companions set up Red Army to execute Fascist criminals. Norma discovers that true David is an old man and tries to warn Elsa that, however, does not give it straight. Nito has returned to Rome, and meets the little Valerio. On the train, Norma kills. The woman's corpse finds suspicious inspector and Giancarlo.
