Episodes
When sisters Mary Jo & Anu bought their home, they thought they could deal with having a tiny kitchen. But after living with it for awhile, they can no longer tolerate the poorly laid out cramped quarters or the poorly functioning appliances. James Young helps them expand their space by incorporating an adjacent mudroom into the design. Then he walks them through maximizing the space they have with custom cabinetry, funky design features and lots of added color.
Newlyweds Beau & Jesalyn couldn't resist their 1950's ranch style that sits on a beautiful lot backing up to an urban creek. But the kitchen is less than desirable - a wall blocks their beautiful view, and there's nowhere for the whole family to sit together and eat. James Young's plan includes knocking out a wall between the kitchen and family room to create one big, open space. Then he's decking the place out with industrial elements including a bar top made from metal, and a funky backsplash made using old skis.
Tyrone has many happy childhood memories of going to Grandma's house. But now that he OWNS Grandma's house and has a wife and five kids, those happy memories have turned into frustration-especially when it comes to the kitchen. It's too small, too tattered, and the cabinets are just plain too tall! With no room to expand, James Young needs to make this kitchen live bigger and function better. He starts by opening up a wall and creating a peninsula, then installs new stock cabinets with a rolling ladder added on to reach the high spots, then brings in walnut countertops, concrete tile for the floor, and new stainless appliances.
Reuben and Camille bought their condo for it's convenient, urban location, but the drab kitchen is a serious sore spot. It's completely drab and filled with builder-grade materials from top to bottom. With a budget of just $20,000 James Young helps them spice things up without breaking the bank. On tap are new cabinet doors, a 3-D stainless steel backsplash, and concrete countertops with embedded fiber optic lighting.
