Vinzenz Grieshaber assures his Polish farmhand Tomasz Kulka he'll be alright when the latter reunites his family, starting a farm of their own in their homeland, with son Pawel and wife Maria, who no longer had to care for the grandparents. Teen daughter Paulina and her gang celebrate her birthday with mixed feelings as a virtual sendoff, but it inspires an idea. Lucy Krämer feels sure she can convince her family to offer taking in -not unlike Dr. Hansen repeatedly, as now Tim- Paulina, so she can finish school with their friends, but rumor presents it as a done deal before Paulina actually made her mind up, and Maria is furious, but Tomasz talks her over to let the girl choose: she stays, except for long Polish holidays.
Tim patiently teaches dog Cookie tricks, hoping to revive the circus with grandpa Waldemar Hoppe, but the old man is too weak, even for a long promenade in his wheelchair. Leo's Labrador Jojo comes along on a hike with her diabetic friend Nina and acts erratically, as turns out naturally reacting to her upcoming episode and failure to medicate, so an ambulance can be called in time and Leo considers having Jojo trained as assistance dog.
