Episodes
A childhood friend of Nellie's comes to the pub; as neither is married, they agree to date. When they try to kiss, Will has uncontrollable hiccups, which reminds Nellie why she jilted him so many years ago.
Nellie gets splashed by a passing car. The owner Charles takes her home to dry her off. They start dating and she finds out that she has been paying for all the expensive clothes, dinners, horse riding, golfing etc. When her dad Jed goes to his house, the bailiffs are there seizing his belongings for non payment. It seems the house was a rental that he had not paid rent on.
Battling Bill is a bully. He comes into the pub and pushes everyone around. He gets free drinks, bothers people, throws people out etc. They cannot get rid of him. When Nellie hears that he is going to have a boxing match, George sends Gilbert in to fight him. If Gilbert wins, Bill can't come back to the pub. Light on his feet, and with a bit of acrobatics, Gilbert avoids Bill and accidentally knocks him out, and wins the match.
After a dear friend dies from alcohol, Jed decides to reform. He joins a mission and quits drinking. Charlie tries his best to snap him out of it, but nothing works. During a rain storm, Jed invites the reverend to sleep on the sofa, but it seems he goes to Nellies room instead. Jed and Nellie swapped rooms earlier and Jed kicks him out. All is back to normal again.
Gilbert has run out of design ideas for the boutique. While Jed is away, Nellie offers Gilbert his room so he can relax and let the creative juices flow. Nellie pampers him and when Jed gets back, Nellie makes him sleep on the settee. He is so fed up of the Nellie/Gilbert arrangement, he goes to live with George. Gilbert is creative again and when Jed comes back home, George has groomed him to look like Gilbert.
Nellie Pickersgill moves to London to take over her ailing father's Chelsea pub.
