Episodes
On a rain-soaked Sunday evening, Seattle-based SYML (Brian Fennell) performs live in the Fraser Performance Studio at WGBH in Boston. We got a chance to sit down with SYML before the show to talk about his search for identity and how that search has inspired his music. He also shares the story behind his stage moniker and some of the funnier made-up acronyms for SYML.
New Jersey native, and third-year music industry major at Northeastern University, Sidney Gish, performs live in the Fraser Performance Studio at WGBH.
Boston native Julie Rhodes told us before her recent set in our Live at Fraser series that her musical career started "on a whim". After singing along in the audience at a house show, she was given some words of encouragement to write her own songs. That night, she began writing her first song and before long she was recording her debut album with producer Jonah Tolchin. She released Bound to Meet the Devil in 2016 and it's clear this is an artist ready to break out.
Boston-based The Devil's Twins exhibit catchy, yet haunting, dueling vocals by Nikki Coogan and Jeremiah Louf- atop a wall of sound generated by one guitar. The press and their underground cult following-The 2crew-describe their sound as "noir punk". Nikki and Jeremiah were joined on stage by a number of accomplished Boston musicians for this one-of-a-kind live performance at WGBH's Fraser Performance Studio.
Jamila Woods stripped down to the basics delivered one unforgettable Live at Fraser performance. With just bass, guitar, and her incredible voice, the lyrical poet blew us away performing songs from her debut release, HEAVN.
Front Row Boston: Live at Fraser is a new series from WGBH and the producers of their Emmy® award winning series Front Row Boston that features intimate concert experiences with the most talented and promising artists, from across a wide range of music genres including Celtic, classical, jazz and rock. Set in the acoustically pristine Fraser Performance Studio at WGBH, and in front of a live audience, the show combines performances by local and national legends, and emerging talents, along with casual conversation in an energetic atmosphere, allowing artists to engage with their audiences all around Boston.
