In the Season 2 premiere, Giada De Laurentiis arrives in Florence, Italy, and heads straight to the local market. Later, she prepares a Tuscan-style lunch to share with friends, who are visiting from the U.S. The menu includes her spin on steak Florentine; "greens and beans" salad; garlic bread; a classic dessert and a local Chianti.
Giada reminisces about her grandmother and her love of rice, while pulling some twists of northern Italian favorites, including bitter rice, white chocolate orzo pudding, and artichoke-and-fennel crudo.
Giada pays tribute to her brother, who passed away from cancer, by creating a meal inspired by some of his favorite dishes. Included: cheesy mashed potatoes; charred broccoli rabe; pork chops with balsamic glaze.
