Episodes
Brian and Mary are overwhelmed with the amount of work that needs to go into their 1950 home. The pink and lime green colors need some serious updating. The homeowners want to rip everything out and start new, but Maureen and Dan love its retro feel and want to incorporate it into the new design. Maureen and Dan come up with a design plan that will make the home current but save the history that makes it so special. But Mary and Brian may not be on board. They come into some roadblocks along the way, including Ike the dog, who lets them know exactly what he thinks.
Lewis and his daughter Jessie have been working on restoring their 1955 home for months, but the amount of work has been overwhelming. The living room's wood paneling is dark, the kitchen is small and impractical, and the outside of the house looks like it should be on the cover of a ghost story. Lewis and Jessie love the 1955 features but realize that the layout doesn't meet the needs of their entertaining lifestyle. Maureen and Dan must figure out a way to save some of the beautiful qualities of the home but make it open and inviting.
Greg and Liz inherited their 1961 Laguna Beach home from Greg's father, Gordon. The uniquely angular home is like a 1960s time-capsule with period furniture, light fixtures and even carpeting in every room...including the bathroom and kitchen. Location...location...location. The view and hilltop location inspire Maureen and Dan to make a design plan that this home deserves. It will take a lot of demo and rearranging but Maureen and Dan are sure they can honor Greg's father yet still make Greg and Liz feel like it's their very own. However, things don't always go according to plan.
Kristin and her husband Bryan had no idea that Kristin's grandparent's house was up for sale, nor were they looking. But when they came across the listing, they had to go for it. Even though she wants to update the 1958 home, Kristin has so many memories from her childhood there that she's finding it difficult to see anything go. Maureen and Dan help her through this emotional process but realize there's a fine line between what they should bring back to its 1958 glory, what they should use as inspiration and what should be trashed.
When empty nesters Kerry and Andy bought this 1957 home, they got to work on updating the exterior. But when their budget ran out, their renovation came to a halt. Now with $90,000 saved up, they've enlisted Maureen and Dan to help them get the interior of their home to match the fresh and modern exterior. Their cramped kitchen, closed-off living room and outdated pink tile bathroom all need serious help. And while Kerry and Andy dream of a contemporary, beach-inspired design, will their their plan be too over the top?
McCormick and designer Dan Vickery overhaul homes that are stuck in a design time warp.
