3 couples have their first sessions with a marriage counsellor. Dudley and Sylvia, a nouveau riche couple, are trying to overcome Dudley's recent affair. Middle aged couple Carmel and Brendan are aiming to re-spark their marriage since Carmel's recent weight loss. Graeme and Moya, a successful well-to-do couple, are taking the sessions to right a recent "injustice" they have experienced.
Carmel and Brendan discuss living apart. Sylvia and Dudley argue about the effect of their marital problems on their daughters. Graeme opens up about his childhood while Moya is stuck in traffic.
Carmel comes back home when she outstays her welcome. Moya and Graeme are unhappy with their latest court appearance. Sylvia and Dudley cannot make their appointment so Sylvia gives the time to her sister and brother-in-law when she learns that their is no refund.
Carmel and Brendan feel more intimate since her return..or so it seems. Sylvia and Dudley return rejuvenated from a holiday to Rome. Moya and Graeme feel the strain of staying at home with their children every night.
Sylvia explains how she has begun to forgive Dudley for the affair. Brendan has had to look after an injured Carmel. Moya and Graeme foresee trouble ahead for their reputation in their son Dargan's court case.
Different couples go "on the couch" to open up to a marriage counselor about their difficulties to comical effect.
