The snow comes in hard, tangling and mangling traffic in Donner Pass. Sam from "Nyack Towing" must winch up a young driver's pick-up which has plunged down a steep incline and slammed into a tree. Becky and Edgar from "Dependable Tow" struggle to extract a big rig loaded with hay from a ditch far below the highway.
A dry winter quickly changes direction as extreme weather batters the northern Sierra region of Nevada. With massive amounts of snow comes dangerous conditions for drivers. But that can also mean a big payday for these four competing town truck companies.
The worst snowstorm of the season blankets Donner Summit and Sam of Â"Nyack TowingÂ" gets a call about a driver plowing into a tree near an icy river. With Sam's truck sitting on pure ice as he attempts to tow the crushed vehicle, he must ensure that both vehicles don't end up in the river or get hit by oncoming traffic.
The violent weather and icy conditions wear on in Nevada as Eddie from Sierra Towing and Sam of Nyack Towing compete for job calls. Eddie is 15 miles ahead of Sam as they race to the next tow job. But with the icy conditions, Eddie is at risk of having a secondary accident slide into him.
The brutal winter continues in the Sierra Nevadas as tow truckers in the region rescue drivers from the mountains' icy roads. But Sam of Nyack Towing won't complain about the weather and is hell-bent on getting more jobs.
At the peak of I-80's storm-driven Donner Pass, a band of tough operators rescue stranded and wrecked motorist who lose their way. These tow truck drivers risk it all to put food on the table and provide for their loved ones.
