While walking through the woods to take a picture of an endangered owl Dwight falls through a hole onto Princess Gretta and accidentally awakens her with his kiss. As a result, he becomes her Champion, a situation that neither teenager is happy about.
Jacopo the Troubadour demands that Gretta relinquish her throne. Using his magical lute, he entrances the citizens of Woodside to do his bidding in his quest.
Dwight's community service project follows him home in the shape of the adorable puppy, Peanut. Gretta and Baldric swear that the harmless puppy is something much more menacing.
A witch immobilizes Gretta with enchanted flowers and kidnaps her. When Baldric is also immobilized, Dwight must try to find the princess with help from an unlikely source: Chlodwig.
While trying to coordinate the annual Woodside Carnival, Dwight and Gretta are kidnapped by a group of bandits and shackled together. Literally inseparable, the two must navigate their way through the carnival.
Dwight, a 21st century teen, falls into an ancient, underground chamber and lands lip-to-lip with Gretta, a gothic princess who has been magically sleeping for a thousand years.
