The three Shaw brothers live in the small town of Poland, New Hampshire. Hank "Quaid" is the police chief, Garrett "Lynch" is the mayor, and Waylon "Penn" is looking for work. Hank's wife wants to buy the closed town theater. Garrett has a woman from a previous affair try to black mail him. And Waylon is tricked into revealing details of his brother's affair to his daughter and niece.
Dottie conducts auditions at the theater for an upcoming play. Garrett tells Helen about his affair with Sharon Ropers. The whole Shaw family feels the the impact. Garrett's brothers stand beside him as they try to convince Sharon to forgive him.
Waylon buys an ice cream truck. Some of the townspeople feel it is unhealthy for the children to eat ice cream. One goes as far as shooting Waylon with a paintball gun. Meanwhile Charlie Babbot from the bank offers Dottie some financial assistance. Dottie finds out this is fueled by his attraction for her. Also Garrett and Helen deal with Monica's increased interest in sex.
The Shaw brothers go fishing with Reverend Deeker. He shares his plans to come out to the church congregation that he is gay. The brothers have to decide if they will stand with their friend or turn their backs on him in his time of need.
The story of the Shaw family, the pillars of the community in their quaint little town of Poland, New Hampshire, and the issues they face daily while trying to help their family, friends, and neighbors with their problems.
