Episodes
With the construction of the Rumeli Hisari fortress on the western bank of the Bosphorus, Sultan Mehmed II's goal is literally chiseled in stone: The conquest of Constantinople. Now the ship passage to the Black Sea at its narrowest point, together with the eastern fortress of his great-grandfather, is under Ottoman control. Emperor Constantine is forced to accept help of any kind and to bury old enmities for the good of Constantinople.
After Admiral Rizzo's betrayal and Hayrettin's death, Mehmed devises a plan for revenge. In Mehmed's view, Rizzo has no choice but to seek refuge in the Pontic Empire. The Pontic Empire will either hand Rizzo over or face the wrath of the Ottomans. Rizzo, having caused the death of Çandarli's nephew, is also targeted by Çandarli. Will Mehmed be able to make Rizzo pay for his betrayal? Will Çandarli take revenge on Rizzo, having been forced to kill his own nephew with his own hands? In Byzantium, new balances are being established ahead of the great siege. Notaras, who was invited to the city by Emperor Constantine, has immediately begun making sinister moves to corner the Ottomans. Two of these moves involve potential alliances with the Kingdom of Serbia and the Karamanid Beylik. Will Notaras succeed in forming this alliance of evil? Will Serbia betray the Ottomans? How will all these events affect the Ottomans' siege plans? Meanwhile, the echoes of Notaras' alliance efforts are being felt in the Harem. Byzantium's attempt at an alliance with Serbia has drawn Mara Hatun into a vortex, while the Karaman alliance attempt has pulled Gülsah Hatun into a similar predicament. Feeling ashamed in front of Mehmed, will Mara and Gülsah be able to pass this test of loyalty? Will the tension in the Harem lead to a fracture?
After completely disrupting Byzantium's plans and giving Notaras the necessary response, Mehmed continues with the preparations for the conquest without any delay. Meanwhile, he instructs his pashas to remain vigilant, especially warning Baltaoglu never to abandon his position. However, Baltaoglu falls victim to a scheme orchestrated by Constantine. On the other hand, Çandarli is relentlessly following the trail of his nephew Hayreddin's blood, searching for Rizzo everywhere. Blinded by his desire for revenge, Çandarli enters Galata. Constantine realizes that the alliances Notaras attempted to form with the Serbians and the Karamanids have failed. Despite this, he writes a letter to the Pope seeking assistance. However, the Papacy refuses, with only one exception: Giovanni Giustianni. Against all odds, Giustianni sets out for Constantinople.
Mehmed holds Süleyman Pasha Baltaoglu accountable for Giustiniani's entry into the city. Will Baltaoglu face execution as an example? How will Çandarli react to the judgment against Baltaoglu, who commands the navy? Can he persuade Mehmed to change his decision? Meanwhile, will Prince Beyazid's unease over the attention given to Mustafa continue in the harem? Elsewhere, will the Baliler, who are trailing Demetrios in the Morea, achieve their goal? What challenges and obstacles await them along the way? What plans do Demetrios and his wife Theodora have? In the meantime, how will the people of Constantinople receive Giustiniani's troops as they arrive? Before the siege, tactical battles between the Ottoman and Byzantine sides intensify. What moves will Mehmed make against the walls and critical gates? What will be the views of Zaganos, Ishak Pasha, and other advisors in the Kubbealti on these strategies? On the Byzantine side, what defensive strategies will Constantine, Notaras, and Giustiniani put in place?
