Warf engineer Kristian Storstein is stunned to find his wife, mayor Luisa, engaged his first love, Agnes Wallem who left him bluntly, emigrating to the capital to become an architect, for her first major independent contract, in his present small town home, on Sognefjord, which has one of Norway's finest 'Stabkirche' (traditional wooden Viking church, turned Lutheran), to design and build a 'matching modern new town and communal house. Agnes is even more stunned to meet at the welcome reception her ex Kristian and considers leaving rather then compromising his marriage wit Luisa and kid daughter Mia but stays. Kristian suspects his workaholic wife Agnes of 'compensating' him for an affair, ignoring what Luisa only confides in the pastor: probably terminal cancer. Just when Kristian got physical with Agnes again, her city fiance, neurologist Jonas Tjersland, arrives for a surprise visit and soon smells a rat. Drama mounts as the truth becomes inescapable for all.

The meteorologist Leif Sörensen, who lives on a remote island, is the only one who can save him through an organ donation. But to find him, Hanne needs the help of her husband, who, however, has withdrawn, deeply hurt, after learning that he is not the biological father of her son.
