A chaotic family of seven battles time, emotions, and each other while transforming a crumbling farmhouse into their dream home.
Episodes
The Hatmakers are on a hunt for a fixer upper house in Buda, Texas, that will fit their growing family of seven. They tour two houses, but decide to purchase a 1908 farmhouse that they can reconfigure to fit six bedrooms. They pack up their old house and make the move across town to the historic neighborhood within Buda to begin their new renovation adventure.
This family of seven is getting settled in their new farmhouse, but only the two girls are sleeping inside! Jen and Brandon are in the garage apartment, and the boys are camped out in an RV in the backyard while the renovation kicks off. Jen and Brandon work alongside a crew to demo the entire first floor of the farmhouse to create the open floor plan they've always wanted. They add new structural beams to support the second level and build a stunning new dining room from scratch.
Jen and Brandon tackle the upstairs attic, converting a small room and unused storage space into three unique bedrooms for their middle kids Ben, Caleb, and Sydney. They also add a shared family rec room and reading nook adorned in reclaimed wood salvaged from the lower level demo. In the process, they discover they have a rat infestation and must overcome this, and several other obstacles, to get the space in working shape.
The Hatmakers are fed up with their makeshift outdoor kitchen and are ready to build a new one from the ground up, inside the house! To match the open flow of the lower level, they're building this kitchen to open onto the rest of the house, while embracing funky product combinations like raw steel countertops, weathered cabinets, and a copper backsplash accent wall. The mix of products, as well as their love for vibrant color, will give this kitchen the industrial farmhouse feel they love.
Jen and Brandon convert two awkward spaces in the front of their house into an entry bathroom and bedroom for their youngest daughter, Remy. They move the original front door and close the space up to create the bathroom, dropping in a mixture of patterned subway tiles and repurposed wainscoting pulled from their backyard fence. In Remy's room, they build a really fun loft bed, complete with a fireman's pole that gives the space a playground feel.
Jen and Brandon Hatmaker - and family - take a Texas-sized plunge when they undertake the restoration of a 100-year-old farmhouse just outside Austin. What happens when a family of seven decides to take on a top-to-bottom home renovation?
