Episodes
Susanne Mertens is back as the zoo's chief veterinarian. At the university, where Susanne works as a lecturer, she meets Dr. Matteo Berger. She asks him whether he could imagine supporting Susanne at the zoo as a veterinarian.
Susanne is hit hard by Mike's cancer diagnosis because he wants to go through it alone. Inspired by the good collaboration with Matteo Berger, Susanne has the idea of starting a student project. Director Winter is skeptical.
A sponsor for the project for young talent has been found. However, the funder has set a condition that Susanne cannot accept under any circumstances. The ambitious project is in danger of failing from the outset. Susanne convinces Mike to take a blood test, the results of which suggest drastic treatment. How Mike will react remains unclear. Georg's overwork in the household following Charlotte's accident is putting the Baumgarts' peace in a dangerously strained state. It's becoming increasingly clear: help is needed. Luisa begins training as an animal keeper at the zoo. Susanne is unsympathetic to her decision, as she worries about her daughter's future. Gina and Jonas' discussion about their upcoming wedding culminates in the question: children - yes or no? Jonas wants them under all circumstances, while Gina avoids the question.
At the zoo, Susanne and Matteo Berger launch the "Generation Zoo" project with three students. Lilith and Nick initially approach their sponsor's niece, Sina, with a certain distance. Susanne and Matteo continue to bond over the professional challenge. It becomes clear that Matteo has a mysterious problem that he is hiding from Susanne. With Susanne's help, Georg - after further amusing little household disasters - finally convinces Charlotte to hire a housekeeper. Her name is Maria. Susanne finally accepts Luisa's decision to become a zookeeper. However, it becomes clear that Luisa finds Susanne's enthusiasm for the student Sina offensive. A conflict arises between Jonas and Gina when Gina clearly expresses that she is not ready for a conventional wedding ceremony. Mike continues to deal with his cancer in a relaxed manner. Susanne recognizes this as repression. She tries to respond positively to her friend, but Mike refuses the necessary therapy and takes refuge in false hope. Until he collapses due to a panic attack.
Matteo transfers Susanne to a scheduled surgery. Susanne is disappointed and personally hurt. Susanne has no idea that Matteo is in trouble due to the impending loss of his license to practice medicine and therefore didn't show up... Jasper's search for a new apartment is anything but successful. And so he is forced to spend the night at the office. In the morning, he encounters Phil, the sleeping intern, who resorts to an excuse. The young nursing assistant is covering up a hematoma on his arm, which Jasper doesn't miss. Luisa is very irritated that Susanne still hasn't introduced her to the students as her daughter. Is she embarrassed by her mother? Gina confesses to Luisa that it's bothering her that Jonas wants children so badly. Because she definitely doesn't want them, but she doesn't want to lose Jonas. Mike is having the surgery after all, and Susanne is relieved. Charlotte and Georg, however, are worried that Susanne is taking on too much too quickly with this relationship. When Susanne goes to the hospital to see Mike, he still hasn't woken up from the anesthesia.
