Episodes
Flanders 1747. Jan De Lichte returns from the War of the Austrian Succession as a prisoner, accused of murder and desertion. He manages to escape and returns to his native region, where he finds a rough and divided world. The town, where Burgomaster Coffijn rules with an iron fist, bans all the riff-riff very indiscriminately. These exiles band together in a miserable camp in the woods. Jan's old mate Tincke is the leader. Meanwhile Baru, the new law enforcer, enters town.
Héloïse meets a marriage candidate. Coffin works against Baru's reform of the city guard. Jan tells the Embo family that Emiel is dead, but withholds his deed.
Tincke rescues an injured Jan from the hands of bounty hunters, but discovers the reward that has been promised for him. Coffijn involves partners in his road construction plans.
The thieves discover the valuable cargo they've stolen in the stagecoach raid, but the incident provokes a violent backlash not even Baru can prevent.
Baru receives valuable information from his spy, Anne-Marie. Héloïse fled with Jan and left her father behind. Iron Simon makes a proposal to Tincke.
In 18th-century Flanders a soldier-turned-bandit becomes a local hero as he leads the oppressed and downtrodden in a revolt against the corrupt aristocracy.
