Nia and Thomas return from their Greek honeymoon hoping to distance themselves from Nia's family and make their own lives, but to no avail. The problem becomes much more complicated when Gus buys them a house as a wedding present, because they realize that it will never be "their" house.
After a family friend is sent to the hospital, Nia's parents, realizing the fragility of life, worry because they haven't written out a will. They make one, and in it they give Nia the restaurant, which causes problems both for Nia, who doesn't really want it, and her brother, who feels slighted.
Nia's cousin Ariana comes to town from Greece, and the whole family tries to get involved in her affairs, each with their own agendas.
Gus doesn't have a loading zone permit for his truck, so he lets a policeman eat at his restaurant for free in order to not get a parking ticket. Nia finds the cop offensive, so she makes him pay for a meal. Naturally, this causes problems, so Nia goes to City Hall to get a legitimate loading zone permit.
While trying to impress Gus, Thomas lies by telling him that he knows Pete Sampras. Gus then expects to be introduced, so Nia and the girls try their best to make it happen.
