Episodes
Episode 1 Seventeen year old asthmatic Shay Alkobi is the son of Beersheba Magistrate Court Judge and District Court candidate Micah Alkobi. Despite not having his license, Shay goes out for a drive and hits a motorcycle, severely injuring the rider. Panicked, he flees the scene. When Micah learns of the situation, he immediately heads down to the police station with the intention of turning in his son. Moments before handing Shay over to the authorities, he discovers that the victim of the accident is none other than Asaf Ben Atar, who belongs to one of the most dangerous crime families around - and has a change of heart. In a spur of the moment decision, Micah lies to the police and tells Superintendent Hanit Rufus that his car was stolen. He then turns to his good friend Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Abu Nazir, a Bedouin and an old friend from their days in the army, and asks him for his help in getting rid of the vehicle. Khaled calls a family member, a young car thief by the name of Juma Massri, and hands over Micah's car for demolition. While driving the supposedly stolen vehicle, Juma is obtained and arrested by the police.
Episode 2 As part of the Massri family - a crime family with a long-standing and bloody rivalry with the Ben Atars' - Juma is not only suspected of car theft and his involvement in the hit-and-run, but of the notion that the accident was not one at all, but rather a deliberate attempt on Asaf Ben Atar's life. Micah enlists attorney Yael Ben Moshe, a former intern of his and a lawyer at the cusp of her career, to represent Juma. Fearful of Khaled and loyal to the Massri code of silence, Juma refuses to cooperate with the police and Yael. At school, Shay meets Gabi Werter, a physical education teacher who notices his distress. The two become initially acquainted. Supreme Court Judge Sarah Bloom is the mother of Micah's deceased wife and Shay's grandmother. Sarah can sense that something is being kept from her, but isn't successful in getting information out of neither Shay nor Micah, with whom she has a shaky relationship. Superintendent Rufus realizes that the vehicle that hit Asaf Ben Atar is the same car that was reported stolen by Micah, and calls him down to the police station in order to identify Juma. Afraid that Juma will finally start talking, Micah lies to the police and says he saw Juma wandering around his car shortly before it was stolen. Micah strengthens his ties with Yael in the hope that she will report back to him when Juma looks like he's about to talk. Superintendent Rufus figures out that the car that hit Asaf Ben Atar belongs to Micah, and discovers a suspicious find in the vehicle.
Episode 3 Superintendent Rufus secretly meets with Udi Ben Atar, Asaf Ben Atar's brother, who gives her a Ventolin inhaler found at the scene of the accident. Khaled tells Micah he's decided to fire Yael Ben Moshe from Juma's case. Rufus and fellow investigator Avi Nachmias interrogate Juma and tell him that he isn't suspected of stealing a car, but rather of a much more serious offence - a hit-and-run accident. Juma continues to uphold his family's code of silence and says nothing. Shay goes on a field trip with his class and gets drunk in the presence of PE teacher Gabi, who tries to put him off drinking. Khaled fires Yael from Juma's case. Furious, she arrives at Micah's and tells him that there is no way she can be fired legally without Juma's consent. Feeling the rope tighten around his neck, Micah calls Udi Ben Atar with the intention of telling him that Juma was the one that hit his brother, but ends up changing his mind at the last minute.
Episode 4 Micah considers withdrawing his candidacy for the position of District Court Judge, but fears such a move would arouse suspicion. Omar Massri, head of the Bedouin crime family, meets with Khaled's wife Nora, who learns that her husband is in trouble. Juma Massri tries to get out of the mess he's in without throwing Khaled under the bus, and tells Yael he has an alibi for the time of the crime: he was busy stealing a different vehicle some 50 km from the scene of the accident. Yael demands Rufus look into this, but the latter isn't really impressed with this alibi, and is convinced it was fabricated. Shay realizes that his behavior got Gabi in trouble as her firing seems imminent. Yael visits Juma's village in order to confirm his alibi and is attacked by the locals. Even still, she manages to see and photograph the car Juma claims to have stolen at the time of the accident. Khaled meets with Micah and confronts him - he's just starting to realize the mess Micah got him in when he asked him to get rid of his car. Micah transfers a large amount of money to Juma's mother Ida, who in turn must convince her son to take the blame for the accident. Hussnei Massri, a relative of Juma's, is brutally attacked by Ben Atar's men behind bars, right in front of Juma's eyes.
Episode 5 Shay forces Micah to defend Gabi at a disciplinary hearing and save her job at the school. Micah warns Gabi against seeing his son outside of school. Rufus visits Yael at home and shows her photographs of Hussnei, who was badly burned by Ben Atar's cronies while in police custody, and advises that Juma remain in protective custody. Khaled tells Micah that Juma is frightened and likely to start talking and turn them both in. Micah is horrified when Khaled tells him Yael has quit the case. He heads out to her place in order to convince her to go back on her decision. Rufus meets with Asaf and Udi's father, Arye Ben Atar, in prison, and asks him to do what he can to prevent the renewal of war between the Ben Atar and Massri gangs. Sarah invites Rufus to her home, hoping to get some information out of her regarding the secret Micah and Shay insist on keeping from her. Sarah tells Rufus about the Alkobi family's tragedy: Amalia, her daughter and Shay's mother, was mentally ill, fell into drugs and passed away two years ago. Shay, Sarah tells Rufus, is all she has left of her. Micah tries to convince Yael not to deepen her inspection of Juma's alibi. Yael refuses and demands that Rufus head out to the village and locate the car that Juma claims to have stolen at the time of the accident. Shay is gradually falling in love with Gabi. Micah and Khaled head out to Juma's village and burn the car that would have served as his alibi for the night of the accident and cleared him of all suspicion.
The life of the brilliant judge Micha Alkoby is on a promising path, with a promotion soon to be promoted. Everything changes after his teenage son, Shay, is involved in a hit-and-run, in which he is the culprit.
