The Man has relocated to a new diner in a new city with new clients.
The Man shows signs of change when Doris, the inquisitive waitress from the first diner, appears in his new booth of choice. Meanwhile, The Man's customers report on their progress with their tasks. Some have made great strides, while others are still trying to figure out what it is that they really want.
The ManÂ's patrons encounter complications with their tasks. Some struggle with issues of faith, others with their sense of morality. But many start to see evidence that the deeds theyÂ're performing are bringing them closer to what they covet.
As the end of the tasks approaches, the customers find more resistance standing between them and their tasks than they were expecting. The Man reports on his progress to Doris, and it becomes clear that heÂ's more comfortable asking the questions than answering them.
The tasks that people have completed come to fruition in surprising ways and The ManÂ's business with Doris is not yet finished.
An apparently random group of strangers each enter into a Faustian pact with a mysterious figure, whom they believe possesses the power to grant any wish. In return, they must carry out an assigned task and update him on their progress.
