The badly decomposed body of Hans Vonnsen, 69, is found in his house in Lübeck's old town. A natural death that nobody noticed? The former theater dramaturge had lived alone since the death of his husband. When the forensic medicine department found a fracture of a cervical vertebra, which could have been caused by a blow or kick, Finn Kiesewetter and Lars Englen began investigating. The house heiress Klaudia Mittmann is suspected of murder: she is the daughter of Hans Vonnsen's husband and was not on good terms with her late father's partner. A half-unpacked shopping bag in the kitchen leads the investigators to another lead. The victim had often ordered food from a delivery service. But what does Vonnsen have in common with the delivery man Lenny, which made him invite him to his apartment in the evening? The detectives are supported by police psychologist Yasmin Ahmadi, the new member of the team.
The young teacher Jenny Duve is out on her stand-up board on the Baltic Sea. Suddenly a motorboat changes course, picks up speed and rams the woman off her board. She can only be recovered dead by divers later. An accident seems to be ruled out: According to a witness, the motorboat deliberately ran over the paddler with full force. The victim's wife is suspected of murder. Catrinel Raducanu has not always been able to control her jealousy and has been violent towards her partner in the past. But the detectives also check the victim's professional environment and find out that the committed teacher had had trouble with a student. She had already been physically attacked by him once. The detectives meet the student's parents, who are obviously prepared to go to extremes to protect their son.
The Sarazetti Circus is performing in Lübeck. During the last performance of the day, the Bulgarian employee Mascha Petrova is found beaten to death. The victim had just done the box office for the evening. There is no trace of the takings. The injured artist Gina Sala, who is in financial difficulties, comes under suspicion. When the detectives discover the stolen money in her trailer, the theft seems to be solved. But is Gina also to blame for her colleague's death? When the investigators research the victim's past, they come across a mystery: Mascha was reported missing in Lübeck by her husband under a different name five years ago. What happened? And where has she been all these years?
The Brazilian Enzo Pereira had just invited his girlfriend Carina Bosse to fly to his hometown of Rio when he was murdered by an unknown assailant. While Carina was preparing breakfast in the kitchen, he was stabbed to death at the front door. During questioning, Carina accused her jealous ex-boyfriend Simon Fink of the murder. The fitness trainer was actually stalking the young woman, but denied having anything to do with the crime. When the detectives wanted to check Enzo's passport, it turned out that Enzo Perreira had been dead for a long time. But who was the murder victim then? And where did the young man, who worked in construction, suddenly get so much money for the trip to Brazil? The investigators are faced with a mystery.
The body of Pascal Mertens, 20, is found in a park. He had been released early from youth prison just two days ago for good behavior. The police officers bring Heiner Mertens the news of his grandson's death. Pascal, who grew up with his grandfather, had spent six months in prison for grievous bodily harm. In prison he underwent therapy to change his aggressive behavior. His victim at the time was his girlfriend Neele, who also reported him. Neele complained at the time about what she considered to be an overly lenient sentence. When the police officers find out that Neele met with Pascal after his release, Neele claims that Pascal wanted to apologize to her. But Finn and Lars are skeptical: Has she now taken revenge on her tormentor?
Finn Kiesewetter had left the police force to convert to an organic farm. But after a fire destroyed it, Finn found himself ruined and forced to return to law enforcement.
