This installment details the brutal October 1970 homicide of Nancy Marie Bennallack of Sacramento, CA at the hands of Richard John Davis. More details below.
Santa Fe, New Mexico, August 5, 1982: A beloved Franciscan priest, 57-year-old Father Reynaldo Rivera, was lured away late at night from the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis by a killer who used the fake name of "Michael Carmello". The reason the caller used was a ruse, the caller wanted a priest to deliver last rites to his grandfather. On August 7, 1982, Father Rivera was discovered shot and killed in a field near the desolate La Bajada rest stop on the outskirts of Santa Fe. It is believed that two persons were involved in the homicide. In spite of years of investigation, the case has yet to be solved as of 2023.
On April 20, 1998, a man and woman were traveling on a lightly used highway in the mountainous region of Garfield County, Utah, at 6,000 feet in elevation. They saw something unusual and phoned in a tip to police. Law enforcement detectives discovered the frozen solid body of a young woman wrapped and bound tightly in a sleeping bag. She had been killed by a bullet to the back of her head. Over the years, detectives were unable to find the killer. In 2018, twenty years after the body was found, detectives published a photo of the woman's face. Soon, detectives received a tip about a missing woman in Ohio who resembled the Utah woman. Detectives made a DNA match with the missing woman's sister to identify the deceased as 37-year-old Lina Reyes Geddes. And again through advanced DNA techniques such as M-Vac, detectives were able to determine that her husband had been her killer. However, Edward Geddes had died in 2001 without being brought to justice for the murder of his wife.
Willoughby, Ohio, January 11, 1980: Young mother, 25-year-old Nadine Madger is savagely stabbed to death in her apartment. Due to painful and intrusive questions from law enforcement, Nadine's husband, Mark Madger, lives under a cloud of suspicion for decades. The criminal case goes cold for over 40 years, until DNA Forensic Genealogy solves the crime. The killer had been Stephen Joseph Simcak. However, Simcak had died in 2018. Both Mark Madger and his son Dan appear on this program, speaking about the heartache and grief they both felt over the loss of their wife and mother.
Police must track down the vicious killer of two separate Jane Doe victims, murdered in a shockingly similar way.
Award winning journalist Paula Zahn unravels shocking crimes interviewing those closest to the case including lawyers, the victim's family, and detectives.
