Prosecutor Quiring finds the body of Sophie Marchal in the hammam of the elegant luxury spa hotel of which he is a client and where the young woman worked as a masseuse. During the investigation, Constance and Boris learn that the young woman had been performing undeclared services for several months and especially that she received daily messages and emails of insults from a mysterious anonymous.
Jeanne Vernay, a lawyer, is found murdered in her office. Constance and Boris discover that she has been the victim of sexual harassment by her former boss, a prominent lawyer at the head of an influential law firm.
The body of Liliane Maizières, a woman in her fifties, appears in a small square and causes commotion among the population of Marseille. Constance and Boris discover that she was originally from Lyon and was staying at a hotel in the city, where she had come in search of her granddaughter Lou, a troubled teenager who ran away from home and was involved with bad company.
Eric Duval, commander of the gendarmerie in Aubagne, who was about to retire, is found stabbed. The judges will have to deal with the traditional rivalry between the gendarmerie and the police, who are in charge of investigating the murder, in particular with the new commander, who happens to be the daughter of the deceased.
Yohan Giraud, a very promising footballer, is found dead in a training center near Marseille where he and his brother Léo are residents, encouraged by their family to pursue a career in the world of professional football. The judges visit the facilities, where the teenagers, far from their parents, suffer the continuous pressure of the competition. Apparently, Yohan had become arrogant after signing with a First Division club and had attracted jealousy and animosity around him.
Wrongfully imprisoned former farmer Constance Mayer, 50, earns law degree. As clerk to demanding Marseille judge Filiponi, her nontraditional methods challenge colleagues and her mentor's perspective.
