Sophie Mornan, 26, intern architect, runs scared trying to escape from a stranger. When crossing a street, she is hit by a truck and dies instantly. The coroner finds traces of tear gas in the young woman's eyes. Sophie was serving as a member of the jury at Fabien Beynac's trial, accused of the murder of his associate. Delcourt and Meyer must question the other members of the jury.
The body of a 35-year-old woman is found behind the city's dumpsters, a few steps from Saint-Charles train station. The judges quickly discover that the victim had been living in Marseille under a false identity for years. Her prints correspond to those of Aurore Chassagne, a young girl who mysteriously disappeared in 2000 in the vicinity of Nice.
Fabrice Vernon, famous personal trainer and adventurer, is found stabbed with an awl in the cabin of his boat at jetty no. 3 of Marseille port. Vernon, who went to Lycée with Barth Meyer, was in town for a lecture in a bookstore and decided to stay the night on the boat. Only witness, a drunken Dutchman declares a motorcycle fled from the crime scene. The police rule out robbery and focus on Vernon's clients. Barth shows up at the Palais de Justice to state that he was with Fabrice that evening and that someone was insistently calling him on his mobile.
In the parking of a supermarket, the corpse of Jérémy Nogent, 32, married and father of a little baby, sports teacher at Jean Moulin school, is found dead from a blow to the head, but the murder weapon is missing. His wife Myriam had reported his disappearance. Allegedly, he went kitesurfing and did not return, but Constance thinks that mistral wind and rough seas were not suitable for surfing. Myriam declares he had an argument with Philippe Choppard, history teacher, who despised and humiliated Jérémy in public.
Lionel Kaplan, a prominent local entrepreneur, is found dead, severely beaten, a few dozen meters from the premises of his company Fibro Tech, where carbon fiber composite hulls for racing sailboats are produced. Judges doubt if the murder is linked to his professional activities, and a trail of industrial espionage must be followed, or if they should rather look for a motive in his personal life.
Wrongfully imprisoned former farmer Constance Mayer, 50, earns law degree. As clerk to demanding Marseille judge Filiponi, her nontraditional methods challenge colleagues and her mentor's perspective.
