Eight "beauties", women who rely primarily on their looks, are paired up with eight "geeks", men who rely on their intellect more than their social aptitude or looks. The beauties have to teach a Grade 5 class one of four subjects - Science, Mathematics, History or Geography. The geeks have to perform a rap song for a nightclub audience that includes judges Molly Meldrum and Jessica Mauboy.
The eight beauties have to study the anatomy of the body. The eight geeks have to practise relaxing massage techniques and develop their own signature move before putting them into practice on their beauty. The winners of the two challenges each nominate a team to send to the Elimination Room, where they participate in a quiz on subjects related to their challenges, in which the team with fewer correct answers is eliminated.
The seven remaining geeks go on a speed date, which was the first opportunity for many of them to embark on a date. The seven beauties become budding rocket scientists by attempting to build a rocket from scratch and launch it. The winners of the two challenges each nominate a team to send to the Elimination Room, where they participate in a quiz in which the team with fewer correct answers is eliminated.
The six remaining geeks have to create a race day dress for their beauties, including choosing a dress and making a fascinator from scratch to impress Kate Waterhouse and milliner Peter Jago. The six beauties have to brush up on their knowledge of current affairs when they present a speech on a newsworthy topic. The team that wins the challenges nominates two teams to send to the Elimination Room, with each person nominating a team. The nominated teams participate in a quiz in which the team with fewer correct answers is eliminated.
The five remaining geeks are given a makeover in the hope of boosting their confidence, before they team up with their beauties in a special soap opera challenge, with some help from Home and Away (1988) stars Ada Nicodemou and Luke Jacobz.
