Based upon a series of books, told from Hap's perspective. After lifelong best friends Hap and Leonard lose their jobs, a seductive woman from Hap's past resurfaces with a plan to score some major cash.
Enticed by Trudy, Hap and Leonard begin their search for the lost loot with new compatriots Howard, Chub and Paco. Leonard receives distressing news about his Uncle Chester.
As the group closes in on the stolen money, Hap, Leonard, and Trudy revisit their past. Loyalties are tested within the gang during a fateful gathering at Leonard's house.
After counting the money, the gang discovers there's not enough for their cause. Paco suggests buying cocaine in bulk to flip so they set off to meet Paco's drug dealer, which leads them to an abandoned office where an unexpected duo await.
Soldier and Angel force Leonard to dig up the money but a surprise awaits them. Trudy stands her ground while Hap and Leonard seek a way out.
Set in the late 1980s, Hap and Leonard is a darkly comic swamp noir of two best friends, one femme fatale, a crew of washed up revolutionaries, a pair of murderous psycho killers, some lost loot, and the fuzz.
