Benedikt's mental health deteriorates after he resigns, and he follows a strict routine to deal with it. Steinunn supports him and at the same time copes with political pressure. Grímur tries to step into Benedikt's role, but meets opposition within the party.
Christmas is approaching and growing concerns about Benedikt's mental health are causing tension at home. Steinunn who is pregnant and worried tries to support him. As the birth approaches, Benedikt has to decide what he wants.
Benedikt is transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reduce the strain on his health. A reckless joke that he makes becomes a media scandal that isolates him politically. Steinunn and Grímur try to deal with the consequences.
At the same time as Benedikt's mental health is deteriorating, he gets into a fight with Svanhvít over budget cuts, especially regarding the promised psychiatric ward. Steinunn faces challenges both in family life and work. Grímur tries to support Benedikt, but tensions rise and he is increasingly isolated and unstable.
A new bill is presented that targets Benedikt. Svanhvít pushes for the bill, while Grímur and Steinunn try to protect Benedikt. His actions at a tense meeting of the Nordic Council in the Faroe Islands are causing problems in international relations, especially with Denmark.
