A woman wakes up inside her car after a car accident, and realizes that her two children are missing. She manages to get out and finds the city in chaos and horror.
The woman, Hannah, finds her two children safe in her ex-husband's house. While attending her wounds, Andrew, her ex, explains Hannah about the current situation of the city, recalling the few news before the blackout. But Andrew's house may not be a safe haven.
A woman comes home with groceries and found a young woman lying on the street. She tried to help the young woman on the floor, who seemed unconscious, but was attacked by her. Meanwhile, we see Andrew at home listening to the news on the radio. He's washing his hands when the blackout happens. He hear some noises, someone has entered in the house, and he's holding his shotgun.
Andrew, in despair, goes to his neighbour's basement, looking for guns. He is found by his neighbour, who holds a shotgun. Andrew explains himself, and told him he needs a gun to kill his dog, Max, something has attacked Max and he is in terrible pain. Palmer, the neighbour, has a real talk with Andrew about the current situation.
The kids are talking about the fate of Max, the dog, while suddenly they are approached by their father's current wife, Judy. Judy was the woman who was attacked by a young woman she was helping on the street, earlier. Judy's state is not good at all.
