The race begins. The five pairs of travellers can choose any route they like to journey across the northernmost of Japan to the first checkpoint in Nara City. Which pair will finish first?
The race continues with less than five hours separating the teams. Leaving Nara City, they must cross their first border into South Korea to reach the second checkpoint in Sokcho.
The 3rd leg begins in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi as the teams enter south east Asia. They must race over 2,000km through Vietnam and into Cambodia to reach Phnom Penh. Whoever reaches the checkpoint last will be eliminated from the race.
The teams are starting from the third checkpoint in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and must travel 1,400 kilometres through Thailand, one of the most visited countries in the world.
The full length of Thailand must be navigated by the teams to reach the next checkpoint - Koh Phi Phi - an archipelago of islands immortalised by Leonardo DiCaprio's 2000 movie The Beach.
Five pairs of travellers embark on an epic race that will take them through many countries. However there is a catch, no planes allowed, no smartphones and only a small budget given to conduct their journey.
