Local newspaper reporter Witold is assigned to cover the murder of a prostitute and a man she was with in a local forest. His new assistant Piotr and he both suspect the man who confessed to the crime didn't really commit the murders.
Witold puts his plans to move to Berlin on hold to look into a supposed suicide, while Piotr's investigation into the two deaths in the woods stirs up trouble for him and his colleague.
Piotr's delving into the murders has ramifications for his home life, and a visit from his important father complicates matters at the newspaper where Witold keeps digging into the suicide of the two teens.
Piotr uncovers clues about the murders in the forest as Witold impersonates various officials to gather facts about what led up to Justyna's death. Flashbacks also reveal what Justyna's final days were like.
In an early-'80s Polish town, a prostitute and a youth leader are found killed, but the police's handling of the case makes two journalists suspicious.
