Inspired by a news story, Phileas Fogg is goaded into betting that he can circle the globe in just 80 days, despite never having been abroad before. Jean Passepartout and journalist Abigail Fix are joining him to document the journey.
Fogg's self-respect is shattered by an arrogant widower's ridicule, worrying Abigail and Passepartout even before a disaster strikes.
Stuck on Yemen's west coast, foolhardy Fogg decides on a dangerous desert crossing, leaving Abigail Fix in a place where even a fellow Englishwoman proves hostile.
Fogg, Passepartout and Abigail are stranded in an Indian village where a wedding is about to take place. With the promise of a guide the following day Fogg agrees to stay. However, Passepartout has been bribed to cause further delay in order that Fogg will lose the wager, and gives him a powerful drug. Suddenly the Indian Army arrives and arrests the groom Anand for desertion. It is up to the bride's mother Aouda to revive Fogg in order that he may speak for the accused man.
Passepartout's knowledge of Hong Kong proves useful when Fogg's finances are blocked. However, there is a high price to be paid. Abigail's latest article could humiliate Phileas at a party in his honour.
