Two couples have a $450,000 housing budget. Grace and Dan want to live in Montana, where the median home cost is $230,500. They first look at a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1656 sq. ft. house listed at $431,800 on 20 acres in Paradise Valley, which is 40 miles outside of Bozeman, MT. It comes with a pergola, a fire pit, and a high end grill. Then they look at a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1864 sq. ft. house listed at $450,000 in a new suburb of Bozeman, MT. Felicia and Joe share a household with 2 tiny dogs in Florida, where the median house price is $233,000. They check out a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 2283 sq. ft. waterfront house in Fort Myers listed at $455,000. It has an enclosed porch containing a saltwater swimming pool and a hot tub. It comes with its own 90 foot dock and boat lift. Searching for more space, they then tour a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 5306 sq. ft. waterfront house listed at $458,000 located in Lake Placid. It has an attached guest house and a private dock with a swing looking out over the water. It has a wrap-around porch, a balcony, an outdoor pool, and a koi pond. Its second-floor layout is unusual in that it features a large central catwalk.
Two couples have the same housing budget of $725,000. Nikki and Aras want to live in the Phoenix, AZ area, where the median home cost is $246,400. They look at a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 3192 sq. ft. house on 1.16 acres in the desert. It has a swimming pool, an extended covered patio, and a mini-golf putting green. The serene setting provides privacy and quiet. They also view a 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom, 3398 sq. ft. newly built house. It has an athletics training swimming pool with jets that provide a current to swim against. Its fenced backyard is next to a busy, noisy highway. Allyson and Zlatan with their baby boy Jack and family dog want to live in Chicago, Illinois. The median home price is $227,900, but they want to live in the more expensive West Loop Gate area, where the median price is $312,100. They first look at a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1800 sq. ft. condo located within West Loop Gate. Its private rooftop deck provides a view of the city's skyline. Then they tour a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house located 15 minutes away from West Loop. It was formerly a multi-unit coach house and proves a bit difficult to find, as it is tucked away off the street.
Prospective homebuyers search two different cities for properties with the same exact price tag. Once they realize what their money can buy, these home seekers may end up making an unexpected choice.
