Episodes
Hungarian noble Hunyadi János wants to marry Mara Brankovic, the daughter of a Serbian count, but after the unexpected attack on Galambóc by the ottomans, things aren't so certain.
The Hungarian king wishes to be the emperor of the Holy Roman empire. Hunyadi falls in love with Erzsébet but he needs to leave her home to go with the king. Mara worries for a woman who arrives to Constantinople.
Now in Italy under Visconti, Hunyadi is well liked among the people, but all letters from his wife are being kept from him. Meanwhile Erzsébet gives birth to Hunyadi's son and tries to keep order in Hunyad village.
With the death of Sigismund, Albert Habsburg takes the Hungarian throne, and the pious new king soon finds himself caught up in the games of the demanding barons and his strong-willed wife, Elisabeth of Luxembourg. Although Elisabeth is aware of the importance of an heir to the throne, she has been trying unsuccessfully to approach her husband for years, and finally, under the influence of Ulrich Cillei, she resorts to a much darker solution. Meanwhile, the Hungarian noble houses are also expanding their power, convincing the new king that their soldiers should not be called into arms outside the country's borders. When Murad launches a military campaign against the castle of Smederevo in Serbia, Hungarian help arrives only in the person of Hunyadi, while the nobility is camped on the border not suspecting that they are putting themselves in a danger greater than fighting. Hunyadi thus fights another desperate battle against the overwhelming force of the Ottomans, with a tactical move that surprises everyone.
