Natsume finds a black cat looks very much alike of Nyanko-sensei except fur color. He confuses the cat with Nyanko-sensei, and brings it back.
A snowy day, Natsume and Nyanko-sensei went for a walk to Shibanohara. There seemed to be two statues of the forest guardian deity, but now there is only one.
Natori, Natsume and Nyanko-sensei go on a hot spring trip. At that inn, they listen to the noise from the closet and watch a woman wearing a kimono hang from the ceiling.
There is a mysterious egg just born in the garden of Fujiwara's house. Natsume and Nyanko-sensei can't miss it and try to hatch.
Kirinoha, a timidly spirit asks Natsume to return his name. Kirinoha says that Reiko said she would return his name after 50 years, and then tied the paper that wrote his name to a branch in a forest.
When Natsume Takashi inherits a book that belonged to his late grandmother he realizes the book is filled with the names of spirits she defeated and bound to her will. He then decides to return their names so they can be free once again.
