A Story to Read When You First Fall in Love

Junko and her boyfriend break up. He is realistic and she confronts the truth and nature of their relationship. She is getting to an age though that makes her want a man for marriage. Then there is her mother who nags her and is after her to improve her lot in life. She is under pressure at home, at the school she works at and has cold water thrown on her figuratively and literally just to make things miserable all around. A romantic proposal materializes soon however.

The cram school teacher has taken the troubled student and alienated son of a rich man under her wings and is focused on helping the young man. Her parents, in the meantime, have a wedding anniversary and are planning a trip. The mother suggests the daughter considers a trip of her own, one that nets the daughter a husband. A letter arrives.

It is decided then, Harumi will tutor the boy with the hope and determination to get him from being an urchin to a candidate who can pass the two sets of examinations and be accepted into Tokyo University. The tutor asks her fellow teachers for tips and rolls up her sleeves to beat the clock as there is a lot to learn.

Junko's former classmate finally musters the courage to profess is love for her and asks her to go out with him. Unfortunately, the timing is imperfect and he is also misunderstood. Junko is an amateur at this and is not attuned to understanding such things. In the meanwhile., the younger boy is studying hard to gain admission to Tokyo University,

As a series of flashbacks demonstrate the relationships and personal situations of the three rivals and the object of their desire is fast advancing and changing. A student is working hard after a bout of illness,a a teacher is becoming a free man and another one is gathering strength to pursue the woman he covets.
