Um musicólogo em busca de verdades esquecidas enfrenta rivalidades e segredos enquanto revive a beleza de canções medievais perdidas.

The Leuven Chansonnier. A 15th-century songbook which is not much larger than an iPhone was recently discovered by chance. It turned out to be an extraordinary find. The book contains 50 Franco-Flemish polyphonic songs, most of them on French medieval texts. Although the composers are not named, their identification points to some of the most important figures of the time, such as Ockeghem, Busnoys and Binchois. Following certain conventions about how voices sound pleasing together-known as the rules of counterpoint-these composers crafted these beautiful gems for three and four voices. Research suggests that the manuscript likely originated in the French Loire region around 1470-75-or was it Paris? Most astonishing is the inclusion of twelve unique pieces, never before found. The quality of both the poetry of the music is simply superior. The precious book is housed at the Alamire Foundation, the Centre for the Study of Music in the Low Countries based in Leuven-Belgium, which conducts further research while also sharing its findings with a broad audience. The new series of 50 short documentaries provides insight into the music, poetry, and performance practice. Each week, a new video will be released, culminating in an prestigious exposition at the Leuven Museum M (October 2025), celebrating 600 years of the University, where the Leuven Chansonnier will take center stage.
